There’s nothing more sweet and holy than the birth of baby Jesus on Christmas. The scene of this sweet little baby in a manger, surrounded by Mary, Joseph the wise men and all of the animals, is serene. The story is this. 2000 years ago, Caeser Augustus ruled that there were to be a census taken to record all the peoples of the Roman world. Joseph and Mary made the trip from Galilee to Bethlehem to register, about 70 miles! While in Bethlehem, it was time for Mary to give birth. No guest room was available and so Mary gave birth to Jesus with the animals. She swaddled him in cloth and placed him in a manger, normally used as a trough for the animals food.
In the fields nearby, and angel appeared to the shepherds watching their flock. The angel said to them “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:1-20) Thus, the word had spread that the Lord Jesus Christ was born. The wise men travelled to praise him and give him gifts of Frankincense, Myrrh and Gold.
